Aim

What are we doing? 

The Helmholtz Institute for Translational Oncology Mainz (HI-TRON Mainz) is currently in the process of developing an advanced web-based platform for data sharing. This initiative is a collaborative effort involving prominent institutions including the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ), the Research Institute for Translational Oncology at the University Medical Center of the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (TRON gGmbH), the University Medical Center Mainz, and the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. 

What are our plans? 

Employing established tools for FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable) data sharing in biomedical research, HI-TRON Mainz is strategically developing a platform with the aim of affording researchers the ability to access an overview of potentially available data and biosamples derived from previous projects, studies, and analyses. Enabled by a catalogue-style user interface, users will have the opportunity to search a meticulously organized metadata database. Additionally, they can initiate data requests, subsequently gaining access to comprehensive datasets following an initial feasibility query. To ensure the utmost data protection and record linkage, HI-TRON Mainz is actively integrating the Mainzelliste web-based pseudonymization service into its core facilities. This integration encompasses the DKFZ and TRON gGmbH biobanks, the Omics IT and Data Management Core Facility (ODCF) at DKFZ, and the Biomarker Development Center (BDC) at TRON gGmbH. 

HI-TRON Mainz is methodically shaping projects, studies, analyses, and data by conducting meetings with researchers and research Principal Investigators. Simultaneously, the institute is actively progressing the development of the platform's user interface.

Mainzelliste

The technology of the Portal will be built on existing tools for FAIR data sharing in biomedical research. They provide a customizable data management, a data entry system and a catalogue-like user interface. For data protection and record linkage, we integrate the Mainzelliste web-based pseudonymization service into HI-TRON Mainz core facilities and the two biobanks. Lastly, to access data for secondary use, a structured data request will be built upon an existing tool.
